Multiple PC errors

Hi,

I have four PC's all running SECC, and have used SECC on most of my PC's as they come and go for over four years

The licencing I get via an agreement with Sophos and my work place as the company has it installed on thousands of PCs.

Up until now I have never had a problem, but with the install to a new PC something has cropped up. So:

PC A (oldest of the 4) - no issues, full functions (nothing greyed out), downloads updates, Product version 10.6.4.1150, Update version 5.4.0.724, Protection version 1.3.1, Primary location = Sophos

PC B (latest PC) - All Configure functions greyed out except Right-click scanning, Tamper control Greyed out, downloads updates,  Product version 10.6.4.1150, Update version 5.4.0.724, Protection version 1.3.1 but also has Endpoint Defense version 1.0.0.265 and Network Threat version 1.2.2.50, Primary Location = company specific avupdate.nats.co.uk......

PC C (next newest) - full functions (nothing greyed out), fails to download updates, Product version 10.6.4.1150, Update version 5.2.0.276, Protection version 1.3.1, Network Threat version 1.2.2.50, Primary Location = company specific avupdate.nats.co.uk......

PC D (Oldest 18 months) - full functions (nothing greyed out), fails to download updates, Product version 10.6.4.1150, Update version 2.9.0.344 - no further software!! Primary Location = company specific avupdate.nats.co.uk......

So, what is happening here??

In all cases I have downloaded the software from the same company location. I even ran a full uninstall on PC D and downloaded a day after I downloaded the software for PC B, and yet what has been installed is totally different. With PC D, I used to have the Firewall version but had the same failure to download which is why I have now tried the standard version.

PC C worked perfectly ok until 4/2/17 when I got the ERROR: Download from server...... message. Now, you'd think then that it was the company server at fault, yet PC B downloads from the very same server with no problems???

Different downloads, different functionality - it all seems a bit of a mess

  • Since reporting this yesterday, PC B no longer downloads anything!!

On checking what was wrong it gets the Error "Could not contact server"

So, I checked the other two PC's that were not downloading updates and they get the same error.

    PC A works perfectly ok

  • Hello Tony Roper,

that all PCs attempting to update from the company server suggests a (perhaps transient) issue with the server or the updating policy.

When Endpoint Defense is enabled almost all settings (including TP) are unavailable - this is as designed (if the endpoint is centrally managed). I have seen update/install failures with AutoUpdate, 5.2.0 is rather recent but nevertheless it likely won't "rectify itself". So you'd need to investigate why it fails (logs are in \Windows\Temp\). Similar for PC D, funny thing is that it seemingly updated to 10.6.4, never seen this.

  • Thanks Christian,

I've informed work but I'm not expecting much as they provide no support

  • Hello Tony,

    I've informed work
well, we'll give them time [;)].
The old AutoUpdate versions, 5.2 and 2.9 (!) are another matter and likely a local (i.e. computer) problem. Please check the AutoUpdate install log(s) in %windir%\Temp\. Might in both cases be an issue with uninstalling the old version.
