Setup.exe (AutoUpdate) fails with error 5 on Windows 10 (Version 1607)

Calling Setup.exe for installing AutoUpdate returns error 5 on new Windows 10 (Version 1607).

Using the command line:

Setup.exe -updp "\\myserver\..." -ouser "%ObfusUser% -opwd "%ObfusPwd%" -s -ni

From https://community.sophos.com/kb/de-de/12570

5 AutoUpdate requires Internet Explorer 5.0 or above; the system does not have this version of IE.

Using the same command line with windows 10 (Version 1511) works like a charm.

Anyone any suggestions?

Ulli

  • Hello Ulli,

obviously it is the bootstrapper setup.exe which aborts the install. It does some basic checks (there's lots of legacy code, e.g. for Windows 9X) among them for the IE version. It also aborts when you run it with the GUI? You should contact Support directly - guess you have already verified that it's indeed in conjunction with 1607 and not just a glitch, haven't you?
