Is my Sophos Protection Up to Date?

So I am running Sophos Endpoint Security and Control version 10.3. The OS is Windows 7 Ultimate. I'm just wondering if it's up to date. I remember last night it said "Last checked for updates 23-03-16" but now it's saying "Updating: Failed". It is also saying "Web Control: Disabled".

I've had a look in the Product Information and under Software it says this:

[General]
Endpoint security and control = 10.3
Current user rights = Sophos Administrator

[Anti-virus and HIPS]
-[ Software]
Sophos Anti-Virus 10.3.1
Release status Full
On-access status Enabled
Detection engine 3.50.1
Detection data 4.98G
Virus data date 12/02/2014
Items detected 6466074
Detection identities 483
HIPS rules version 10.3.33.1
HIPS configuration version 1.0.65.1
Last updated 23/03/2016 22:01:10

I'm concerned about the Virus data date. Does this mean the Product Release Date, or the Virus Defintion Files?

I right clicked the icon in the bottom right tray on my computer and pressed Update Now and then it said "Could not Contact Server".

I've also checked the Update Log file.

On each of the times I've attempted to update it, this error has been logged:

Time: 25/03/2016 13:52:10
Message: ERROR: Could not find a source for updated packages
Module: ALUpdate
Process ID: 6904
Thread ID: 10748

I've searched for help on the Sophos Website and found a help guide but my error is not listed:

www.sophos.com/.../118209.aspx

Anyone any ideas on what to do?

Thanks.

  • Hi,

10.3.1 is quite old so something does appear to be amiss.  Sorry quite a few questions....

    Is this a standalone install?

Where does it update from?  Sophos or one of your update sources?

Where did you get the installer from?

    Who is your Sophos administrator?

Is this install part of a paid license?

If you were using it as part of a home user program from say your company/university and that has "expired" such that you're on your own, you might be best looking into the free Sophos Home product: https://home.sophos.com/login

Web Control being disabled is fine as it's not available for standalone and only active if sent a policy, i.e. it's a managed install.

    Regards,

    Jak

  • The answers to your questions....

    1. Yes

    2. Sophos is the Update location.

    3. A website.

    4. Me

    5. Maybe..

And It's not really that old it's from 2013 just 3 years ago.

I already tried Sophos Home but I didn't like because:

    1. You can't change any settings from within the program. You have to login to their "dashboard" each time.

    2. You can't restore any quarantined files. Once it finds a "threat", it automatically deletes it permanently forever. It prevented me from being able to use one of my applications which I still can't get working.
