Dell "High Risk Website Blocked"

The following driver download from Dell's website is blocked: downloads.dell.com/FOLDER02015416M/1/Chipset_Driver_JF0W3_WN_3.0.07.47_A05.EXE with the message "Access has been blocked as the threat Mal/Medfos-K has been found on this website."

Tried submitting the link for analysis but was rejected due to no attachment - sort of chicken & egg situation.

What is the correct was to get a download link verified by Sophos?

  • Hello woodelf,

allow a few remarks first: It seems that it's the exact URL that is blocked - the path including the /1/ folder is not blocked. Thus the listing is very likely not a FP (in addition the complete URL is also categorized as Hacking in Web Control). downloads.dell.com is hosted on a CDN as it's common practice and probably just one host served this Mal/Medfos-K instead of the genuine driver package. But naturally Web Protection doesn't take chances.

As to your question: Please see Sophos reports that a website is blocked or has access restricted.
