Could not contact Primary Server

I have a small network of Macs. All the Macs are running Sophos Anti-Virus 9.2.8.

My Fileserver is configured to AutoUpdate from Sophos. If I run Sophos Update Manager (v2.6.1) and click Update Now it reports an error has occurred. If I view the log it reports that it 'Could not contact primary server'. Curiously if I click on the 'Update Now' menu option from the top of my screen it connects to Sophos and reports that Sophos Anti-Virus is up to date.

My client Macs on the network all update from the folder where the Fileserver downloads the update files to. If I open this folder the files all appear to be very old. I don't believe that the Fileserver is able to pull the updates down and put them in the allocated folder.

Any advise would be very welcome please.
