Wild cards in av exclusions

Hi wonder if anyone knows if this is possible. I am trying to exclude some folders in a users profile within Windows XP.

C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXXXXXXX\Local Settings\Application Data\Touchpaper\

Is it possible with a wildcard to exclude the users logon name and just exclude in my case the touchpaper folder in every users profile?

  • Hello andytheit,

short answer - you can't use wildcards somewhere along the path.

What are the issues you (or your users) experience and are trying to resolve with the exclusion?

  • Thanks for the reply. We use a product called LanDesk. and it stores temp files in the users profile folder i believe?. LanDesk aren't very helpful. I wanted to test to see if not scaning this folder helps the app run quicker. Its very slow at times. I think i could just say don't scan a folder called tounchpaper where ever it is on the pc?

you could say so, but the filter wouldn't listen :smileytongue:.

There is a way to do this but I've never really used it and seldom tested it, like any exclusion it comes with some additional risk though.

A File exclusion with a prepended folder should work: Touchpaper\*.????????????

Use as many ?s as necessary. A quick test suggests that the exclusion will also apply to subfolders. In other words, it's a general file exclusion applied only when at least one element of the path matches the "prefix" Dunno where I goofed, it does not apply to subfolders. Seemed strange so I did some more tests and it did not exclude the files from the subfolders.
