Linux Box As Update Source?

I was just wondering if it is at all possible to set up a Linux box as an update source at all?

    You have several options depending what you want to do:

    a) Mount the CIDs on the Windows machine, and share them over http

    b) Mount the CIDs and copy them to a new location, so you can share them over NFS.

    c) Configure SUM to write the CIDs to a Samba share on the Linux machine.

    d) For Linux only, you can set PrimaryUpdateAllDistros , and then copy the Local Cache Directory, to then share it out

    as a CID for other Linux machines.

    Dear Sophos user,

    is there any change about this topic? The answer is 6 years old and I would like to re-ask the same:

     

    Can I download the updates for all systems, incl. Linux, Mac and Windows, from a Linux box? I need no management for Windows clients and I have enough Linux servers, I could run the update site for clients on.

    Hello Steffen,

    Linux can download updates only for Linux systems, PrimaryUpdateAllDistros tells the machine to "mirror" the complete update source for Linux (but only for Linux), not just to cache the components it requires for itself.

    I need no management
    so there are no central policies and each admin will have to and can configure Sophos (starting with updating) as desired?
