Sophos is not installed on my computer but it blocks my wifi internet access :-(

Hi all,

I've never heard about Sophos products till my staying in the hotel I am in those days.  It seems the hotel uses Sophos, as when I try to access internet (Wireless : Wifi connection provided by the hotel), there are two main issues :

- either it totally blocks my internet access, whatever browser I use (Chrome, FF, Opera... all last stable versions for Win7)

- either I can sometimes access some websites, but not all (for "confidentiality" issues... ?! some are https ones, guys... )

And anyway, I had to desactivate my VPN access, which is a problem as I need it to enter my enterprise network.

What a mess and so many time wasted with this very annoying issue.

It seems that similar issues have been frequently reported to your community pages. Could be a good idea to fix it.

It doesn't matter so much for me, as I am leaving this hotel tomorrow. But something is sure : I will not become a friend of Sophos products.

All the best,

S.

Config :

Win 7 (quite old, I know, but, but, but...)

Chrome 75.0.3770.142 (Build officiel) (64 bits)

Firefox Quantum 68.0.1 (64 bits)

  • I stayed at a hotel for work once, brought my xbox with for the evenings, could not connect to the Wifi for xbox for the life of me.  Got it too work after awhile by connecting with my phone then accepting their policy, then altering my xbox mac address to the mac address of my phone.  Which worked for about an hour, at this point I simply asked the hotel, a nice IT support rep called my room asked me my xbox's mac address the real one which we both laughed at, because they really did not care about legitimate traffic but were concerned with rouge access points and MITM attacks of their customers so they had increased security to protect people i.e. me.

Worked great the rest of the week after that.

    Respectfully,
