Sophos On-Access-Scans for PDF Files

Question

Hello, 
 
 i think i have a really simple but impactful question :). 
 Does Sophos check .pdf Files if they could be malicious? 
 For example: 
 I have a .pdf File with code that would destroy my System and that code is known to Sophos. 
 Is it possible for Sophos On-Access-Scans to detect it inside a .pdf File?

 yes, PDF files are deemed executable and are scanned for malicious content.
