Error on Install to Windows Server 2012 r12 of Sophos Endpoint Security and Control error - "This app can't run . . "

Hello Sophos Support,

I am getting an error on trying to install Sophos Endpoint to Windows Server 2012 r2 Version 6.3 Build 9600.

When I run setup.exe from the savscfxp directory I get the error message "This App can't run on your PC, To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher."

(See here for a sample image of the generic error message from W10 - www.tenforums.com/.../28836-app-cant-run-your-pc-error-when-opening-task-manager.html )

I am on Sophos Enterprise Console 5.5.0 and Endpoint Security and Control 10.8.

We have installed on many other Server 2012 boxes with no problem.

Have you come across this before and what are the causes or steps to resolve please.

Regards,

Paul.

  • Hello Paul,

    [I'm not Sophos]
this seems to be a Windows issue on this specific server. Common causes are issues with the (admin) account used, registry inconsistencies, file corruptions.

  • Hi Christian,

    Thank you for your reply.

I have checked account privileges and I believe that is not the problem.

What and where would these registry inconsistencies be found?

And file corruptions, again I would need more info to troubleshoot that issue.

The server 2012 is a VM box although that should not make a difference, we have other 2012 VM boxes with Sophos endpoint working OK.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Regards,

    Paul.

  • Hello Paul,

didn't encounter this issue personally. I know of one case (not related to Sophos) where it worked after creating another admin account and using that to install.
It's definitely not a bitness problem, not a problem of setup.exe (I assume that's what you are using), and also not a general problem with your 2012 VMs. Guess you'd have mentioned it if you had other issues on this server. sfc /scannow should do no harm, never had to try DISM. It seems that the what and where isn't known - otherwise you could find more helpful articles.
