Installation Failed - Endpoint will not install on machine despite clients permissions to setup.exe

I am attempting to push out an installation of Endpoint and its components from the Enterprise Console but the machine is reporting back the error of installation failed. [0x8007002]

I have followed the recommended practices by making sure the necessary services are running and that the client has access to the SophosUpdate folder and the setup.exe file within.

He did have the software installed previously and has removed the software himself (he is another Administrator) but we are unable to get it reinstalled and it is also noted that whilst all the apps have been removed the Sophos Update service is still in place.

side note: The reason he removed the software was that it was not longer reporting back to the Enterprise Console

Any help would be extremely help.

  • Hello Tara,

an update or reinstall has to uninstall existing components, if the reinstall commenced - as it apparently did - repeated attempts with Protect are no use.
There's apparently a typo in the error code, I assume it's 0x8007002 but maybe 0x8007020. Both (file not found, file in use) are only meaningful with their accompanying information. It looks like Protect did install AutoUpdate that should install the remaining components but fails. You say that no Sophos component is under Programs and Features?

The logs from Protect should be in the %TEMP% directory (Appdata\Local\Temp\) of the account used, the logs from the subsequent installs (and potential uninstalls) are in %windir%\Temp\.
