Bandwith Issues Chrome/Firefox/Edge

We have been using Sophos intercept x advanced with MTR for about 6 weeks. Since then, our bandwidth has dropped 90%. We use a gigabit internet connection and have previously achieved the following values in a speed test in the browser: Down: 900MB/s Up: 800MB/s

Now, if we're lucky, we'll get Down: 60MB/s Up: 300MB/s.

We found out that it is due to the following settings:
If these settings are deactivated, we have full bandwidth when surfing again. But we don't want to leave them disabled. This is not a condition, the support from Sophos is not getting anywhere either. We expected more...

here are the screenshots from the speedtest:

  • Can confirm our users experience the same bandwidth issues when running Sophos Web Protection.

400-700Mbps with Sophos Disabled, ~70Mbps with Sophos enabled.

This is obviously affecting a massive amount of users. When can we expect a fix?

  • A test-build driver has been made available. I suggest reaching out to Sophos Support via a Support Case to ask for this, as our teams are looking for feedback from customers on the efficacy of the driver.

The main changes applied will be to improve on slow download speeds experienced by some customers, this may not be directly evident when running a "speedtest" as the speedtest does not use legitimate files to perform the test, but instead uses scripting to time the download of files.

Further work is continuing to better handle speedtests as well as latency when browsing websites.

  • If I'm understanding you correctly. your solution is to slow down our download speeds. how is that a solution? I test downloading 1GB files up to 5GB files with no sophos installed and with sophos installed. without sophos the network is fine with sophos the download speeds are restricted.  sophos is already restricting download speeds and browsing speeds. how is this a solution? We need a solution not a try test and let us know if this works.

  • Apologies for the confusion, the updated driver will improve on slow download speeds experienced by some customers, I've edited my previous comment now.

One way you can test this is by using a large file download test website such as https://testfiledownload.com/

  • What is your Solution for Windows Servers?

  • The same test-build is applicable to both Server and Endpoint OS'.

Depending on the specific issue you're experiencing in your environment, different logging requirements may be present. The best way to stay up to date on our development team's progress would be to work with Sophos Support to get your case escalated and associated with one of the ongoing development tickets. This way you can get feedback directly from our L3 team.

  • We are indeed seeing this issue as well -- across multiple servers & workstations alike for our MSP. This is becoming more of a problem for our clients with Sophos installed. I understand this was supposed to be a "feature" but can we get a global rollback of this feature to the previous version that didn't implement this "feature"?
