Sophos blocking wireless

Have issues with Sophos blocking access to wireless networks. Peripheral control is enabled and wireless is allowed. The actual wireless card is not disabled by Sophos, but no wireless networks show in the connect to list.

The fix seems to be to switch to a monitor only policy or to disable Peripheral control within the endpoint software. The wireless card is then detected and can be added to the allow list manually.

It may be triggered by a recent windows update – KB4462919. It seems to affect multiple makes of wireless cards.

  • The wireless cards only appear on the console AFTER a change to a monitor-only policy.

Interestingly it doesn't actually disable the wireless cards in device manager it just stops the available wireless networks be listed.

1st Level Sophos support doesn't really get the problem - "Thanks for the update, just wanted to know if their is any further assistance required from me, as it seems that after excluding the device it works fine.". Not really an issue when wireless only home worker laptops go offline and you have to manually talk the user through disabling Sophos on each one!

  • Hm, that does sound odd.

We block wireless so I haven't experienced this problem first hand, but I do have a lot of exclusions allowed due to devices being blocked.

Hope you get this issue resolved!
