help needed to install printer driver software

I have Sophos Endpoint  10.3 on my company-issued Windows 7pro 64-bit Lenovo W540 workstation.  I'm not sure if it is the same as the Free Edition of Sophos Endpoint, but am hoping the resolution process is the same.   I am trying to install the printer/scanner software package for my Brother MFC-J6920DW.  The software includes a printer-driver, scanner, and monitor over the network connection (TCP/IP).  I am not trying to use a direct (USB) connection.

The first error "Brother Printing Device Installation - An error occurred during the installation.  Please restart your PC, ensure all active applications are closed - Then reinstall the Brother printing device software.   ISO52 - InstallNetworkDriver - 1".   After pressing "Okay", the install program continues and then pops up "You do not have permission to modify the settings for this printer. If you need to change the settings, contact your system administrator".

I've tried closing all apps, rebooting, reinstalling, run-as-administrator, etc to no avail.     The Brother support desk says that the error is known to be Anti-virus related.    Is there a method that I can use to let Sophos install the printer software, or do I need a system admin?  My user id is in the local Administrator account, but I do not have access to the Sophos software itself.

Thank you!

  • Hello SteveSzabo,

first of all, there's no Free Edition of Sophos Endpoint for Windows. It's not clear what exactly company-issued means and whether Sophos was already installed or not but apparently it's your company which provides Sophos and if you think you do not have access to the Sophos software itself  there's not much that can be suggested on a forum other than to contact your company's IT. And known to be Anti-virus related is pretty general.
