Trojan / malware detection.

Recently, I was trying to download a Mp3 jingle from an old TV series I grew up watching. In the process, a window opened up on my 06' 20" I-mac and said threat detected, so I clicked on it to clean up and threw it away in the garbage, so I thought. I did a scan with the free Sophos software I installed several years ago (which took 6 hrs.) and the threat "Trojan" was detected medium threat. Here is what was detected: OSX/FkCodec-A. Also on Back-up hard drive" under show details in the Q. manager. When the scan was complete I was given the option to clean up threat, and clicked on it. After several seconds, it came up "Cleanup Failed". For several hours I tried different things to get rid of it with no avail and did another 6 hour scan with the same result: OSX/FkCodec-A, Cleanup Failed. I then left the computer on overnight and called Sophos and they said no support was available for free consummer Mac Sophos software, but the guy did give me some ideas answering a few short questions. Finnally after dealing with this problem all day and night trying to rid the computer of it (even though it was in Quarantine) I did a shutdown for the night and tried again the next day (day 3).

The next day, I looked for it again but couldn't find it, so I did another 6 hr. scan and this time the Sophos came up with no threat detected. What I want to know now is,  is it gone from the computer (apparently so) and if so could it still be on the back-up hard drive? And can a separate scan be done on the Back-up HD alone to determine if it's truely gone from there to? I just happened to order a new I-Mac a few days before and don't want to infect the new computer when I "Migrate" all my data into the new I-Mac. I consider myself a novice computer user (7 yrs. experience from scratch) so please be very specific in your comments. I may need some step-by-step instructions. Weuuuuu, that all said please help me out if you can.

Thanks, newbie.
