Email threats not cleaned up?

I'm running Sophos Antivirus for Mac Home Edition on a late 2008 Macbook Pro with OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5.

SAV alerted me to two separate threats it detected within a couple of days apart  -

Troj/JSDldr-V

Mal/Generic-S

Each time I opened Quarantine Manager which told me that these were email threats in my email inbox. I then instructed SAV to clean up the threats. The cleanup seemed to have worked as there was a confirmation that it  was cleaned up. However, when I checked back in my email inbox, the email threats (complete with their attachments) both times were still there!

It'd be great if someone could give me some feedback on whether I did something wrong or whether the antivirus software isn't working as it should. Thanks so much.
