Sophos Antivirus for Linux: Some questions about it!

Hi Sophos Community!

I have been using Sophos Antivirus for Linux (In Arch Linux) for a while.

I want to know something about this Antivirus or Antimalware.

Is it still being in development? Or just for Windows, MAC, and Android?

If you still developing and updating this software for Linux, is there any plan to add new features or something?

Is a good idea to use this antivirus nowadays?


I'm a Linux user and I care so much about my security, and Sophos is the only company that has decent free antivirus for Linux for home users.

I just heard that you guys are starting "Sophos Home Premium"  for Windows (And Mac in the future). I know that Linux has a very small base of "Home users", but I would like to know: Do you have any plan to include "Linux users" in your future "premium services"?

I'm a software engineer student and I'm focusing my career on cybersecurity and I know that Linux has a "small amount" of malware and that kind of things, but I don't trust the fact. (Yes, I'm a little bit paranoid)

I want to thank you for giving this service for free, even when other companies don't care too much about it.

    Linux is a supported OS. As far as the basic AV is concerned all platforms share the same engine and detection data.

    Home is targeted a "Family-IT", it's IMO not ideal for stand-alone installations (would you want to go to a cloud console to make settings on your Linux box?) As a company Sophos have, like any other company, to make money with their products - Premium implies it won't be free. The added value is on the one hand a companion signature-less component, OTOH protection and central management of all kinds of devices (including smartphones). The former is not (yet?) available for Linux, the latter perhaps not of much appeal in your case.
