Unable to install Sophos Virus Removal Tool on Windows XP SP2

Not able to install the Virus Removal Tool on Windows XP, double click or right click and run and nothing happens.

Using Sophos Virus Removal Tool Verizon 2.5.5.0. Description says compatible with windows XP sp2 and above.

I can install it on Win 7 without problem.

Any suggestions?

  • Hello Ilir Aliu,

can't test, definitely not SP 2, but it should at least do something and write a log to your %TEMP% directory. Anything in there?

  • Christian, thank you for the comment but no longs in %TEMP%. At first, Sophos agent told me its not compatible with Windows XP SP2 but changed their mind when description clearly stated Win XP and above.

  • Hello Ilir Aliu,

    no logs in %TEMP%
indeed? It should unpack itself and then start the installation. Logs should be in your user's %temp% (not \Windows\Temp), in case it abends Windows should tell you (or have an event in the Event Logs) and the unpacked folder should be left behind. Really no trace at all?

  • Sorry for the delayed response. Machine was a Network Analyzer, vendor took machine to re-image due to unrelated issue. I was not able to troubleshoot further but would like to know if someone has had a similar problem.

    Thanks for your input Christian!
