No items in scan

I'm using Sophos Home edition 9.6.1 - When I open Scan This Mac, the progress window says there are  NO ITEMS in SCAN (just above the progress bar).  What does this mean? The progress bar indicates that its scanning 700,000 or so files but if there are no items in scan, is it really scanning? Below the progress bar it says there are no files with detections.  It has never acted this way before.
