Stopped Scan and Not Secure

I encountered an issue today when a (what I'm assuming is Malware) program disguised as an adobe flash update wound up getting installed onto my MacBook Pro.

I tried to manually correct the issue, but it seemed I couldn't quite fix it, and after a lengthy search, I found hope in Sophos' promise to correct the issues. Well, I installed it, and it was scanning through just fine with a nice big Secured sign on it. But then at about 20/30% through the scan, the program just shut off. I opened it up again and after a few tries, was able to get the scan going again, and it is picking up and removing stuff I don't want. However... it is saying "Not Secure. Automatic Virus Protection is Off." I can't seem to figure out how to turn it back on. I've gone through all the options, and it just won't turn back on, even though it's scanning. I'm confused and a bit defeated at this point.

  • You could run a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac as its a helper tool designed to run alongside any anti viruses with no conflict.
If Malwarebytes doesn't find anything then your Mac is not affected my malware.

Additionally i would completely uninstall and reinstall Sophos Home as the installation probably had an issue to where it caused this crash issue for you.
To uninstall use the Sophos Uninstaller located in your utilities named "Remove Sophos Home". After uninstalling Sophos Home restart your computer and reinstall Sophos Home by getting the installer back from the Home Dashboard online.

If Sophos Home continues to report itself as "Not Secure" i could refer you to a  staff members that i know that may help you on this issue.
