Is there an issue with autoupdates since 2016_Oct_25th?

Hello,

Sophos Anti-Virus Home Edition v9.5.2 has been failing to auto-update on two Macs in our home for the past few days.  Both report "Could not contact primary server" "URL Error: 20 October 2016 20:38.

(where that is today's date for the latest error).

Sincerely,

Mike

  • I have tried clearing the cache (as per link below).  It starts downloading (as usual), but hangs at about 17M of 171M before indicating it cannot contact the primary server.

If this is a content filtering issue (and I do have the endpoint behind a security appliance, though I have not had problems until recently), is there a URL that I can whitelist to prevent further problems?   Seems likely that this might be an issue, because the problem is now happening to two macs that are behind this security appliance (which has the capability of auto-updating its content-filtering lists).

  • I used the administrative panel in the security appliance to look for filtered (and blocked) content and found none.  I also did not see any intrusion alerts.  Hence, for the heck of it, I decided to reboot the cable modem.  It picked up a new IP address when it came up again, and I was able to update Sophos anti-virus!   So far so good...   Odd.   My apologies for any false alarms.  If something changes, I'll post again.
