When running a scan how can I change from Counting to Files remaining

Formerly when I fan a scan the Sophos screen showed Files Remsining, (typically starting at 760,000 and running down to zero) but today when I ran a scan it shows Counting and never seems to stop even after 2,000,000. I uninstalled Sophos Home and reinstalled but the result was the same. How can I change back to Files remaining. I am using OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6
