Could not contact primary server

For several months I haven't been able to update the antivirus, keep getting "Could not contact primary server".

I have Sophos Anti-Virus home edition version 9.2.2.

/Library/Logs/Sophos Anti-Virus.log:

com.sophos.autoupdate: Proceed with manually triggered update from Sophos at 18:19:48 23 February 2015
com.sophos.autoupdate: Updating catalogue information at 18:19:48 23 February 2015
com.sophos.autoupdate: Catalogue updated at 18:19:49 23 February 2015
com.sophos.autoupdate: Error: Failed to get remote version at 18:19:49 23 February 2015
com.sophos.autoupdate: Out of sources at 18:19:49 23 February 2015
com.sophos.autoupdate: Error: Could not contact primary server at 18:19 on 23 February 2015
com.sophos.autoupdate: URL is invalid

Already tried unistalling and reinstalling, and also 2 different ISPs.

Any help would be really appreciated, thanks :)

  • Starting today, I have the same problem on all three Apple computers. I'm using OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.2. I also have a friend 70 miles away who just started having the same problem. She is using Mountain LIon.

For the record, I'm using Home Edition, version 9.2.4 (the latest). I've been using Sophos for many years, and only occationally had minor problems, like the On-Access scanner getting disabled, etc. I was able to resolve them by deleting, then reinstalling Sophos.

And, here's a note to Sophos. I belong to many meetup-groups with thousands of members and I have given demos at various universities, etc. I have always recommended Sophos, and I'm sure most of your other Sophos users have also. So just because we didn't pay for your software, don't think you owe us nothing. I was one of the first users to download Sophos, and your reason for offering it free of charge was to build up your reputation. Those are your words, not mine.

If anyone from Sophos reads this, please send someone into your computer room and check behind the primary server. Maybe the power cord has been disconnected. Believe it or not, as the IT guy for one of the largest banks in the world, i actually discovered that the night cleaning crew disconnected the power cord of one of my computers in order to vaccuum --- and, forgot to plug it back in.
