Second update source is another set of free credentials from a previous install. Same error when only using one update source. Seems to be the read_remote_metadata causing issues.

    Could you run `locale` since it looks like your environment possibly messed up.

    Also you could try running savupdate in the 'C' locale: set LC_ALL and LANG to C and try savupdate again:

    export LANG=C

    export LC_ALL=C

    /opt/sophos-av/bin/savupdate -v5 --debug

    Would you look at that, now it updates correctly. Maybe this should be documented in some Knowledge base article.

    You might want to try setting LANG and LC_ALL to 'en_US.UTF-8' to make your environment more consistent.
