Sophos A-V Stopped Running

I am using the latest version of Mavericks with Sophos 9.2.2 3.55.0 5.07

I can update and initiate a scan but the icon remains grayed out, so I assme that automatic scanning is disabled.

I added Sophos A-V to my list of login items which did not help.

I see no way to start Sophos when I bring up the app from the app folder or the dock. Why not?
