Sophos home for Mac did not install correctly - can't uninstall or reinstall

Hi all,

Downloaded Sophos Home and installed on my new iMac a couple of weeks ago... not sure what version.

Thought it installed OK, but kept getting funny errors whenever I would install or uninstall software:

The system extension “/Library/Extensions/SophosNetworkInterceptor.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’’’’s vendor for an update.

So I figured I would just do a fresh reinstall of Sophos.

However I can't uninstall it - when I run the uninstaller, it just says 'Removel failed'.

If I try to install a fresh version (9.2.7) over the top, it also fails: 'The installation failed. Reomve the software and re-install'

Any suggestions?

Jon

  • Is the application "Sophos Anti-Virus" (located in "/Applications") running?
It will provide you the version number of the running one.
Apparently the Finder version number isn't always correct (my Finder info is showing 9.2.4 when I'm running 9.2.7).

Check with the following (Terminal) command if the Sophos kernel extensions are loaded:

    kextstat | grep sophos

  • Hey Jon,

I think we were talking about this before the migration... just curious if you're still having an issue?
