There's some malware archived in my Time Machine.
In order to right-click on it and Delete All Backups, I need to follow a path through the hidden Library folder just beyond the User Name folder. (See instructions excerpted below from the Knowledge Base article "Removing malware from a computer running Mac OS X.")
I can do this in the Finder and navigate all the way to the infected file. But then when I click Enter Time Machine (as instructed below), I am kicked back up to the User Name folder, with no way to access the Library folder hidden within it.
I have rebooted multiple times.
How do I make the Library folder visible in Time Machine? I know how to do it in the Finder, but not in Time Machine.
Many thanks.
Time Machine Archive.
If the file path contains / Backups.backupdb / ,
- Make a note of the complete file path. E.g., / Volumes / Time Machine Volume Name / Backups.backupdb / Computer Name / YYYYMMDDNNNNNN / User Name / Library / Caches / Java / cache / 6.0 / 8 / 123456123456
- From the Sophos Preferences window, temporarily disable on-access scanning.
- In the Finder, navigate as close to this location as you can, starting from the user name portion. When the next level down no longer exists (or when you've found the file indicated), select 'Enter Time Machine' from the Time Machine menu item (a clock face with an arrow around the outside).
- Navigate to the date and time indicated by YYYYMMDD in the file path, and then follow the path to the detected file within Time Machine.
- Control- or right-click the file, and select 'Delete All Backups of detected filename'.
- Click OK.
- From the Sophos Preferences window, re-enable on-access scanning.
