Submitting a sample to Sophos

Hi,

I got a "Cleanup failed" mention after I tried to clean up a threat Sophos identified on my Mac. I am now trying to submit a sample to Sophos but I do not understand step 2 below. I think it means I should replace [path to file] with the path to the malware, but what about [path to another file]? Should I simply choose some random new name, or is it something else?

Thank you for your help,

Julien

Mac OS X 10.6 (and above)

  1. Open a Terminal
  2. Run the following command substituting the path to the detected file as required:
sweep [path to file] [path to another file] -rename
  3. This will rename the detected file(s) with a .infected extension

  • Hello Julien,

but what about [path to another file]

you may specify more than one path (which may refer to a file, a directory or a file system), i.e. you can scan more than one location with a single command. If you have just one file to scan simply leave out the [path to another file].
