Can the Folder savosx_he_r , Which is a Result of Unzipping the Download File be Moved?

I recently installed the new version of Sophos Anti-Virus Home Edition version 9.2.7 to my Mac. The install file downloaded as a .zip file to my Downloads folder in

~/Downloads

Directory. Unzipping this file produces the savosx_he_r folder within the Downloads directory.

The install and scan seemed to work with no problems, however, when I wented to tidy up the downloads folder and move savosx_he_r folder from Downloads to an Archive, I was asked to enter my password. This usually only happens when I attempt to move a file that has been associated with the operating system in some way.

Is there a reason that this is happening, and if so, can the folder be archived or moved to another location on the same drive without impacting Sophos AV? The .zip file moved without an issue. I like to keep my Downloads folder empty and would be keep to move this folder off of my drive, if possible.

Thank you,

  • If you already archived the zip, why do you also need to archive the un-compacted contents of it (the folder)? Why not just delete it?

(After install the folder is unneeded)

    Hmmm.... Interesting.

The system only prompts for the administrator password when I attempt to move the folder to another volume. When I move it out of the ~/Downloads
folder to another directory on that volume or to the Trash folder, either by command + delete or by dragging I do not get a warning.

I wonder why this is the behavior?

    Thank you.

  • Because of the permissions on the folder you are moving it into?

  • I don't think so, because it was the same folder I dragged the zip file into and it gave me no complaints with that.

As you said it wasn't necessary, I trashed it. SAV doesn't seem to have any complaints.

    Thanks again!
