Sophos Home for Mac vs Sophos AV for Mac Home Edition

I just noticed Sophos Home being pushed as the Sophos AV for Home users on Sophos site, so does that mean SAV is going to be discontinued? Should I keep running SAV or move to Sophos Home? What are the advantages?

  • Could the staff please provide a comment? I couldn't find a comparison anywhere.
  • SAV will continue to be supported.

Sophos Home can help when you need to manage an anti-virus + web protection for several computers from an interface that's accessible in a web browser. Being able to change the settings from anywhere is helpful!

SAV gives you more flexibility; with more options&settings come more decisions! If you want more control over your anti-virus, SAV is a good choice.

Feel free to try both (both are free products!) and then decide for yourself; no one else knows what you like better than you, after all! [:)]

  • I see, thank you for the clarifications, but if Sophos Home is being pushed to new users eventually SAV will be discontinued, although I suspect most of the modules present it both are the same.

What I prefer about SAV is having more control about how often it updates, unfortunately either in SAV or Sophos Home the update process affects performance in a noticeable way, specially when I wake my computer from sleep and teh first thing it does is update the AV which slows everything down.

Considering the real risk and the trade off in performance I'm not sure it's worth it the frustration.
