SAVScan virus detection utility - check the errors after scanning the HD

Hi There! 

 

I am using Sophos AV on my Linux Mint laptop. 

I am sorry but I am pretty new here.

 

After scanning the internal HD I have the following message: 

1446402 files scanned in 1 hour, 9 minutes and 46 seconds.
2 errors were encountered.
No viruses were discovered.
End of Scan.

 

Cool! Now what I would like to do, without scanning the whole pc again, is extracting the 2 errors were encountered.

So, I can see if I need to take some extra action. 

 

Do you know if there is a way for doing that?

 

The command I used is: sudo /opt/sophos-av/bin/savscan -f -all -dn /

I rather the terminal shows the file it is scanning so I can have an idea if it is working or not. 

removing the option -dn looks me like the laptop is freezing and I do not like it. 

 

And more, I have the feeling that even using the option " / " the AV is not scanning the Windows10 partition. 

Do you know how I can be sure of this?

    Hello A F2,

    2 errors were encountered
    if I'm not mistaken, the errors should be displayed and stay on the console. Examples are an Access denied, a dead link, an encrypted or password protected file - usually no reason to worry.

    As to the switches: -f requests a full in-depth scan of the individual files (as opposed to -all that requests a scan of all files regardless of their type, bot only those deemed executable) and is normally not necessary. To have the names displayed with new lines so that they stay and scroll use the -ns (not silent) switch.

    savscan does AFAIK not mount anything, was/is the Windows 10 partition mounted and where?

    Yes, on my laptop I have both installed Windows10 and Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon.

     

    I mostly work on Linux but sometime I need to work on Windows10.

     

    I am not so ecperienced on Linux but I noticed that scanning the whole laptop on Linux is faster then running the AV on Windows. 

     

    So when I am looking for threat mostly for the Windows partition.

    Hello A F2,

    scanning the whole laptop on Linux is faster
    whatever the reason. Please note that an on-demand scan is quite different from the recommended On-Access scanning. AV should protect you before "something happens", on-demand scans are usually performed to either mop up or because there's some persistent threat you can't detect or remove while the OS is running.
