MAC for home edition takes ages to scan and pauses on DMG files

Hello,


I have two separate users on a MAC who have the same issues. One MAC is running mountain lion and every time a scan is run it will pause on DMG files. The same happens on a Macbook Pro running El Capitan, scans fine until it reaches a DMG file and hangs.


I see this a lot around the forums, is there a fix for this because it's really frustrating. I have also done a complete uninstall using the SAV removal tool and installed a fresh copy with no change.

    I have the same sort of problem. The scan stops every time with around 250,000 files left to scan. It always stops on a .dmg file. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and tried changing the auto update settings. Please could you help?

    i have a similar problem i've flagged in another forum. After upgrading to el capitan, sophos will keep re-scanning .dmg files over and over again.

    Hey everyone,

    Sorry for the lack of replies on this case. Just curious if you might be able to post the output of the scan logs?

    --To Access the Scan Log--
    - Click the Sophos menu bar Icon
    - Click on Open Scans... 
    - Alt-click the white space by "Scan this mac" and select View Scan Log...

    This will open the Scan Log in an application called Console. The scan log gives you detailed information about the most recent scans, such as start time, what was scanned, scan configuration, any threats that were detected, etc. You should also see any errors that may have been encountered by the scanner.

    We're really interested to know what specific .DMG files are causing the slow downs, if you can let us know that would be helpful.

    The file that seems to cause mine to grind to a halt is BaseSystem.DMG.
    I don't experience this issue on my Mac Mini, however I do on my iMac. What I have noticed is that since the upgrade to Mavericks, the iMac writes to the SATA portion of the Fusion drive for current files, whereas it should actually be utilising the static portion of the drive as it did with Yosemite. The reason I mention this is that my Mac Mini doesn't have a Fusion drive. Anyway, it may not be relevant, but thought I'd throw that in there.
