Sophos stops running and shows grayed-out icon

I installed Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition 9.4 on an early 2009 iMac running El Capitan. It seems to install successfully, but after a short period of time the icon becomes grayed out and there seems to be no way to get it to run. In addition, On Access Scanning is Disabled but grayed out.

As suggested in an earlier post to another user, I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the program but I get the same behavior. (Sophos was uninstalled using the Sophos Uninstall program which was located in the Applications folder, not the Library folder where I expected to see it based on your documentation.)

I have Sophos running successfully on my MacBook Pro with El Capitan, so I'm not sure what the problem is on my iMac. I have the log file but don't see how to include it in this post. Can you help me resolve this issue?

  • I was quite surprised this morning when I saw the Sophos icon lit up in the menu bar of my iMac. SAV had updated itself to 9.4.1 and the problem that was causing a grayed-out icon in the menu bar and On-Access Scanning to be disabled seems to have been fixed. I'll let everyone know if it changes, but as of now, this very problematic issue seems to have been put to bed.
