Can I use Sophos Anti-Virus Home Edition on my Mac to scan my iPhone for viruses and malware when it is connected by USB cable?

Can I use Sophos Anti-Virus Home Edition on my Mac to scan my iPhone for viruses and malware when it is connected by USB cable?  I am currently using Sophos anti-virus HE version 9.4.0.  I have tried to scan my iPhone with Sophos through iTunes, Finder, and the Sophos app, and have done extensive searches online, but I can find no information about how to run a virus scan on my iPhone from a Mac using Sophos.  Ironically, it is much easier for me to figure out how to scan my iPhone for viruses / Malware when I connect it to a PC, because it is recognized as an external drive that is easily scanned as a peripheral by right clicking and using the antivirus program on that PC.

  • Hello,

    the short answer is: no

an iPhone (or iPad, iPod) doe not mount as a volume visible in the MacOS file System compared to for example an external drive, USB stick etc.

The USB connected iPhone will not create a file system entry in /Volumes and therefore our scanners can not access any
    files on the device.
