New User: Sophos v9 Linux Mint Virus Definition Seemingly Out of Date

Hello! I am new to using Linux and I recently installed Sophos AV v9 onto my laptop running Linux Mint 18.3 "Sylvia" Mate 64 bit. I followed the download instruction and even used a couple of video tutorials to ensure the I installed the AV right. I believe I did set up automatic updates from Sophos. The problem is when I run savscan from the command line it says that the latest virus definitions are "Virus data version 5.46, November 2017" is this normal? Because if I'm reading this correctly it seems horribly out of date. I am very confused. Is this actually out of date or did I do something wrong? Is there a way manually update virus definitions or at the very least to ensure that auto-updates are indeed on and working? Any help you could provide would be much appreciated.

  • Thank you so, so much. I knew there was a way do it, I just didn't know what it was or where to find it. Thanks for the quick reply! I'm going to be deep diving though the configuration guide today. I'm determined to learn how to use this AV via the CLI. I'll do my best to save this forum for legitimate issues and not questions with extremely obvious answers.
