Slow.... Home edition 9.4.0

I am having a bib problem with my Sophos Anti Virus for Mac, it is slowing my computer so badly i can not do anything else until it has finished and the can take from mins to nearly an hour

any help greatly appreciated is the home edition 9.4.o engine 3.61.0

    Assuming a "bib problem" is actually a big problem, open Activity Monitor (in the Utilities Folder), click the CPU button at the top and see what processes are running and consuming a lot of CPU% when you're having that problem.
