Mal/ASFDldr-A virus on a Mac

We keep getting a virus popping up on the Sophos Scan (Mac) and then it will disappear out of the quarantine area. It is listed as the Mal/ASFDldr-A virus and indicates that it is a Windows virus. It doesn't stay long enough to clean up.

  • I am being pestered by the same problem:

    Mal/ASFDldr-A virus on a Mac

Sophos notification pops up every fifteen minutes or so indicating that this virus/spyware was detected and a clean-up was automatically done by Sophos. I tried to locate the folder [CloudKit] and manually delete it but the folder reappears as immediately as I have deleted it. Then Sophos will detect the same virus/spyware and clean it up again. Will this ever stop?

  • I've solved it! Thanks to another post that instructed me to hunt for a .wmv file that is masquerading as a movie but is actually a malware. It was indeed a movie but just a fragment of it, and when I deleted it, I don't receive those notifications anymore! :)
