Cant get past POA , missing recovery key

Hi there,

This isn't life or death as I'm testing SafeGuard standalone on a spare XP laptop.  I've got the SG policy editor 5.50.

I've deployed the default policys on an XP laptop and the local drive encrypted no problem.  I rebooted but neglected to note the local user account name of which I logged on with.

Now I can't get past the POA screen.  On the first bootup since installing the policy MSI I was prompted to pick a POA password and media passphrase which I have noted.

I don't have the recovery key for this XP laptop.

Is there anything I can do to get logged on again?  The Challenge/Response process doesn't seem possible with the recovery key.  I have also tried booting off the Recovery PE CD but that also involves using a virtual client and recovey key.

Any help appreciated

  • Hi StuBox,

    welcome to the forum.

Should you have the bak file from the machine it will be possible to create a C/R without user name. Just leave the user name at POA level and in the recovery wizard empty.

Should you not have any bak file and the drive is encrypted you will not be able to pass the POA w/o entering a valid user name.
