Win 10 1607 (Education) - anyone using V7 SG successfully?

Currently experiencing a few issues with 1607 (fresh build not IPU) and V7. Although an upgrade to V8 is now in the planning I'd like to get this working properly (if possible)

1607 client wouldn't encrypt boot volume. Policy kicked in for secondary hard drive (AES256)

Manually starting BL on the client then encrypted boot volume with XTS-AES. As feared algorithm missing from the console. No recovery key (or export) available.

Set a local GPO to lower the complexity to AES256 as in this guide.

https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-US/123790

Still encryption wouldn't start (checked the obvious bootable CD/DVD/USB etc.., HDD drive prepared for BL, TPM ready)

Decrypted the volume and encrypted again with local GPO changes. Drive then encrypted using my selected AES256 (checked in manage-bde)

However the key still hasn't appeared in the SG console.

I've logged this as a call with Sophos but wondered if anyone else was using Win10 1607 successfully with SGv7 please?

    Hey Michael,

Officially the Education version of Windows 10 isn't supported, however I suspect that's likely down to it not being tested due to limited use as aposed to anything wrong with that version of the OS: https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/121165

I'll keep a look out for your case.

  • Thanks Toby - I don't believe Education is the issue either, but as it's not officially supported in V7 I'm not going to get too far with it!

I did get the key(s) into AD so I'm not overly worried, but would rather they're in the central console - that's what we bought it for!

John L has confirmed with me this morning that Education IS a supported OS in V8 - so that's going to have to be our path.

We're also trying to test the beta of OSx Sierra and found that this too will need V8, so it looks like a prompt upgrade to v8 is needed!

Disappointing, but thanks for the help and at least there's a solution of sorts - upgrade to V8!

    Thanks again
