When trying to initially encrypt drive C:, I receive the following reason code: 12496900 (0x00BEB004).

Hello again,

what does above code signify when trying to encrypt the local drive.

I'm attempting to use SafeGuard to manage Bitlocker Encryptions on our Windows 7 Systems.

Is there a certain requirement in the policies that contradicts the installed Bitlocker Options that causes this error to show up?

    Is this Windows 7 Enterprise/Ultimate?

    Could you have any GPOs in place that contradict your SafeGuard settings?

    Those error codes are basically the same (decimal and hex) and effectively mean that the configured authentication method is not supported... What have you configured in your settings as the authentication method?

    The reason was apparently that I tried to manage Bitlocker encrypted drives for a boot device, but the virtual machine is without a TPM.

    I was hoping that SafeGuard would implement its own authentication methods if a TPM wasn't available, but that is sadly not the case.

    And as Windows 7 doesn't support passwords for boot drives, yet...

    Thanks again for your help there. That advice put me on the right track.
