AD Sync Advise

Hi,

Can anybody offer some advise on AD sync intervals?

We are a large organisation with 10000+ users I'm just wondering what sort of sync schedule would be sufficient? our console currently syncs twice a day but with such a large domain and numerous changes taking place in AD throughout the day could we get away with a sync every 30mins? or would this be too much for the server to handle?

Any advise will be appreciated.

Regards

Tom

    Hello Tom,

The sync is basically just a scheduled task that runs a VB script to copy data from AD to the SGN Database, it shouldn't put any strain on the server.
Providing the server is a reasonable spec for your environment I would expect your worst case scenario to be some minor slowdown if there's lots else going on at the time of a sync being performed.
It's hard to say how frequently you should be synchronising, that all depends on how much movement there is in AD.

As there's no "one solution fits all" approach I would suggest a sync every couple of hours to start with, then increase/decrease as necessary depending on your experience.

I'm sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer Tom but I hope that helps.
