Safeguard 6.x Easy, Is Challenge/Response useless to have?

I had the same issue as this person in the thread https://community.sophos.com/products/safeguard-encryption/f/6/t/1911

Basically what is the point of having this if the user forgets their password? They do all this work to get the challenge and response and then they still have no option to reset their password or log in. Why have this at all then?

Besides the Local Self Help is there any other way a user can get their password?

Thank you

    Hi Brad,

The original idea behind C/R was to get the machine booted, don't forget the POA credentials can be different to Windows.

Local Self Help is there for reasons just like this, so I would strongly advise turning it on and making use of it to avoid running into these issues.
It even allows you to see your forgotten password so you don't need to reset it.

There are suggestions already in that post to use, so I won't repeat those but I would suggest an upgrade as you're on quite an old version (we're just getting ready to release SafeGuard 8). For later versions of SafeGuard you can regain access to your computer very quickly through the web helpdesk.

Depending on your machine, recovery with C/R is also available for the following logon methods in the SafeGuard Power-on Authentication:

    ■ Logon with user ID and password
    ■ Logon with fingerprint
    ■ Logon with non-cryptographic token
