Hello Don,
Yes this is perfectly feasible, but there are a few caveats.
During installation of the SafeGuard Enterprise Management Centre, based on specific parameters from the host machine, a Machine Certificate is being created.
If this installation was captured and transferred to another machine, or a VM, the machine parameters from the new machine will not match the parameters from the machine where the installation/ machine certificate was originally created, therefore you'll end up with an error message like "ConsoleConfiguration: Failed to load MachineCertificate".
It is currently not possible to change this behaviour.
The message indicates that either the required registry keys for the machine certificate or the machine certificate itself is not available on the system or the certificate is not from this machine (that can also happen when you try to visualise a Management Centre machine and move it to different hardware etc).
The best approach in this case is to setup the Management Centre again:
* Uninstall the Management Centre (if there are other SGN components installed, uninstall everything).
* Reboot the server
* Check the registry and the file system for leftovers (search the registry for Utimaco and delete any remaining keys, do the same for the previous installation folder).
* Install the Management Centre again and configure it for the database connection (Security Officer account and p12 or a promoted SO are required for this step).
Correct the machine certificate changes when vitalizing a physical machine.
This is fine to have them all on the same server.
Before reinstalling back up the current database should you need to recover any machines. You can then follow the latest installation guide SafeGuard Enterprise installation guide (version 7)
I hope that helps Don, please let me know if you have any further questions on that.
Thanks Toby, you confirmed my suspicions! I just have a couple more questions:
