Immediate Failed Login

Hello Everyone,

We have an issue on a few of our systems where when the computer first boots and arrives at the POA screen, it will immediately incur a failed login. It's almost as if the keyboard is pressing enter as soon as it hits the screen. We have tried multiple keyboards with these systems, and have other computers that are the exact same model and same image that do NOT have this issue.

Any ideas and help would be appreciated

    Hello Brian,

That's a very strange issue, what's the exact error that's being reported? After the error message are you then able to login successfully?

Can you tell me a bit more about your setup, for example:

    - What version of Windows are you running (Windows 7 Pro I presume)?
    - What make/model of machine is this?
    - What processor are these machines running?
    - What version of SafeGuard are you running, 6.1 / 7.0?
    - Is it SafeGuard Easy or SafeGuard Enterprise?
    - Does this happen every time the machine boots, or only after being powered off?
    - Anything different you can think of in comparison to the machines that are working?

  • The error message is a generic failed login attempt, the same as if someone entered an incorrect password. This comes up before the user would even have the opportunity to enter incorrect information. You can proceed as normal and it will log in fine, but it takes up one of the incorrect attempts.

    The machine is a Dell Optiplex 750 running Win7 Pro and an Intel Core 2 Duo;
    Encryption is Safeguard Enterprise 7.0.

The problem happens every time we turn on the computer and boot into the POA, regardless of how it was shut down. It does not return to POA after sleep or hibernate since we have those turned off on these particular machines.
There are no differences between the devices that do and do not work. They are almost carbon copy the same computer, and even have the same peripherals attached to them, are on the same vlan, and use the same group policy and networked printers. As close to being identical as possible. They were also ordered in the same batch and should have practically identical hardware internally.

And thanks again for the help!

    Hello Brian,

That's a very strange issue indeed, are you able to upload a video that we can take a look at?

Besides the basics of checking everything is updated and patched the only recommendation I can really make is to upgrade to upgrade Windows and use BitLocker (Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 10 Pro etc) or if you're keen to keep using the same setup you can raise a support case and we can get some logs from the machine to take a look.

Just let me know how you want to proceed.
