Can't boot to an external USB drive - is SafeGuard the issue?

Hello,

I need to install a fresh disk image on my older HP EliteBook laptop (Win 7 Professional) which has the following SafeGuard programs installed:

Sophos SafeGuard 5.50.8 Client Configuration

Sophos SafeGuard 5.60.1 Client

Sophos SafeGuard Preinstall 5.50.8

The SafeGuard package is a legacy part of our regular configuration which we don't use any more. I'm ready to overwrite the hard disk with our current standard disk image.

When I try to boot to a bootable USB flash drive containing the image, I get a "Missing OS" error and can't proceed.

Is this a SafeGuard POA restriction? I believe I read that, depending on BIOS, SafeGuard prevents some PCs from booting from external media?

Or, can I rule out SafeGuard as the problem in this situation?

Thanks

Rich

    Hi Rich,

It could indeed be SafeGuard, I would check your Authentication policy and make sure you don't have the option User may only boot from internal hard disk set to Yes.
