Error upgrading from 6.10 to 7.00.2.23 ERROR: 1603

Hello,

I am experiencing this issue while attempting an msiexec upgrade from 6.10 to 7.00.2.23. I am receiving the 1603 error. I just called support and they said sorry that we cannot assist you. I am stuck upgrading 35 machines.

Property(S): Summary_Final = You installed successfully following features:
MSI (s) (8C:B8) [15:30:57:697]: Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Sophos SafeGuard Client 7.00.2.23. Product Version: 7.00.2.23. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Sophos Ltd.. Installation success or error status: 1603.

Can anyone assist. I tried what was in the suggested answer and it's not working at all.

I don't use POA and I don't use configuration protection.

What should i do!?

    Hello CSG,

I'm sorry to hear you got that response from our support team, was there an explanation as to why?
Can I gather the following from you and I'll see if I can assist:
    - Have you tried installing manually by double-clicking the MSI files (recommended)?
    - Are you running the MSIEXEC command from a script or command prompt?
    - If it's from a command prompt is it run as Admin?

If you run the following when installing the SafeGuard components this should log in detail what's happening, if you can't see the issue yourself feel free to post the contents to this post:
    msiexec /i "C:\SafeGuard_File.msi" /L*V "C:\log.log"

I've seen this issue a few times where the MSIEXEC installer is corrupt, can you confirm you can install other applications in this manner successfully?
  • Hey Toby,

    Thanks for the response!

    • I have not tried double clicking as I am attempting to do this without the users knowing
      • I am running MSIEXEC and here is the exact command
        • msiexec /i SGxClientPreInstall.msi /qn /lv*x C:\sophos7_0_2\preinstall.log REBOOT=ReallySuppress - This one works and upgrades fine
        • msiexec /i SGNClient_x64.msi /qn /lv*x C:\sophos7_0_2\client.log CONFIRMCPREMOVAL=1 REBOOT=ReallySuppress - This one is generating 1603 error
        • msiexec /i ClientConfig.msi /qn /lv*x C:\sophos7_0_2\clientsettings.log REBOOT=ReallySuppress

    • I am running these from an admin command prompt

    Thanks!

  • Turns out it was an issue with the PendingFileRenameOperations registry key. Once I deleted that I was able to install without issue.

    Thanks for your help.
