Reading Sector Failed Issue

Hey guys,

I've installed Safeguard 5.61 on a probook 6475b, it was coming up with the error Reading Sector Failed. So I had a look at the knowledgebase and tried all the POA hot-keys. However it comes up with this error after I try shift+F6 "No Init" any help ?

    Hi SLHICT,

Does it actually accept the Hot Keys, ie: does it come up with "Shift key has been pressed. Waiting for Hotkey...."?

If it's not accepting the hotkey combination the encryption probably won't work on this machine. It's worth mentioning that the 5.61 encryption is now very old and won't be supported past March, it's been superseded by SafeGuard Enterprise.

If you update to SafeGuard Enterprise the latest encryption version is 7.0 and there is support for this issue.

    I hope that helps.
  • Hi Toby,

It does accept the hot keys but once shitft+f6 is pressed it comes up with the message "no init" and won't go any further. If the latest encryption version is 7.0 it would not be worth it to encrypt with 5.61 then, is there anyway to de-encrypt the hard drive at this stage on the laptop ? Or would it be a case of formatting and restoring from backup ?

    Hi SLHICT,

Unfortunately the only option here is to format and restore a backup, in the later versions of SafeGuard via SafeGuard Enterprise there is a tool called SGNRollback but it doesn't work with this 5.61 version.

    Sorry it's not better news.
