Encryption not working when logon to other user account

Hi all,

Were under demo last week with this encryption product of Sophos and file encryption works really fine which is our main company needs.

The only problem we encouter is that when one PC where the safeguard ecryption client was installed logon with different user account, file that was ecrypted cannot be access. We used two PC for testing and one for its server console. Two PC where safeguard encryption client was installed were both member of OU in the AD. At first test, encryption works fine. The two pc can access the file under a folder that was set in the server  while other pc that don't have the client installed can also access the file but it was encrypted.

To summarize it, see the following below:

1. Can't access the file when logon to other user accounts on the same PC. (safeguard client was installed)

2. Can't create new file on the folder that was set on the server console to be ecrypted but we can create new folder. (safeguard client was installed)

Any help, suggestions, clarification, tips  on this issue will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

  • Dear customer,

for the first point this is the expected result if you use personal keys. And only the first user can access the data because it was encrypted with the personal key from this user. Similar like you can't open the door from your neighbor with your own key.

The second point is related to the first one. If there are some files inside the folder and you won't have all used keys - you will get an access denied message to prevent that you could damage or destroy files without having the required key.

    Best regards
