POA Issues with HP Elitebook G2 Models

Is anyone else having issues with these? In particular the 820 G2 & 840 G2.

We are running SGN 6.01 and POA hangs on 'Autologon will continue shortly'. If we reboot it we do get the POA login but it says 'Workstation is locked' and the keyboard is frozen.

We've tried latest POACFG and the hotkeys. No difference.

  • I know on the G1 models we had to turn USB support on in the POACFG.xml file before installing Sophos on the machine.

  • I have just started rolling out some 840 G2's at a client office of mine.
I start the laptop up from cold and Sophos Freezes with cursor on screen.
I have to power off and back on again then only it works.
After that this can happen every 2nd to 3rd reboot I do.
Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't seem to help.

Try explaining to a client that there's not much you can do about this issue and that they will have to power off and back on again each time this happens to get a successful boot.

I'd be interested to see a solution for this issue.
  • Some of the users that got HP 840 G2's rolled out didn't get the freezing issue with SafeGuard installed and some did.

    What I did was:
    1) Uninstalled: SGNConfig and rebooted.
    2) Uninstalled: SGNClient_x64, had to wait for the drive to decrypt before it successfully completed the uninstall and rebooted.
    3) Uninstalled SGxClientPreinstall and rebooted.
    4) Reinstalled: SGxClientPreinstall and rebooted.
    5) Reinstalled: SGNClient_x64 and rebooted.
    6) Reinstalled: SGNConfig and rebooted.
    7) Checked to make sure that the users LAN Password, which is stored on the SafeGuard Server as a Security Certificate has synced with the Server Successfully.
(This also stores the security certificate locally, so when the user boots up they have to log into the SafeGuard login with their current LAN login to get passed through to Windows).
    7) Waited till the drive encrypted again.
    8) Rebooted several times to check that it didn't freeze when the mouse cursor came up for when the SafeGuard login screen is about to come up.
    9) Issue resolved.

I'm thinking maybe the install corrupts in a very small way causing it to freeze every 2nd boot up like some of my users have experienced.

Since doing this for 1 of my users at one of my client offices the user has been fine, I have checked in with them every few days to find out that its no longer a pending issue for them.

    Update:
    =======
A few days later the issue came back

  • Got my manager to get the latest version of SafeGuard, Version 7.0 and works fine now. No freezing and fast to SG login screen.
  • I have a fleet of the HP 840 G2 laptops using SGN 6.10 and had this same issue. Changing your video memory off the default 32MB to 128MB or higher seems to have resolved the issue for me. You can find this in the BIOS (F10)> Advanced> Device Configrations > Video memory Size = 128MB. Hope this helps.
