Upgrading from XP to Windows 7

I am using SafeGuard Easy 6.00

I have some laptops running XP which have been encrypted. I now want to upgrade these to Windows 7. Is it safe to do this or should I decrypt the disks first?

  • Hello IanD1,

you should not only decrypt but completely uninstall. Apart from this I wouldn't upgrade an XP installation to Windows 7 unless I have no other option (or did you mean to wipe XP and make a clean install of Win7?).

  • I agree with QC, failure to decrypt and unistall can has major issues on the system if you attempt to re-encrypt afterwords. Furthermore its best practice to run a chkdsk on Win7. True, it may be a fresh install of Win7 so you might think you wouldn't need to run a disk scan. even if you have reformated the disk there is still a chance for bad blocks and you do not want to lay your encryption product over that.
